Reflection:
For my signature assignment, I had to pick a research question and see if two quantitative variables were related. The research question that I chose was to see whether GPA and ACT scores were related. In order to do this, I had to survey some other students at my school. I ended up surveying 43 students. After I gathered the data, I organized it all into tables and graphs that help to easily explain my findings.
Some challenges that I faced were that not everybody I surveyed either knew their GPA or had taken the ACT. Also, I found it difficult to get some students to participate in the survey. This was challenging because I knew that if enough people didn't respond, I could have non-response bias. This was fixed, however, because most of the students were somewhat more willing to participate when I told them everything was confidential.
This project was really helpful in showing me all of the processes required in order to survey people and have statistically accurate results. It was also nice because I learned how to graph data on Microsoft Excel, which will help me a lot in the future as I take other stats classes. I also learned how easy it is to mess up surveys or twist results to help support an idea of yours. I could have been lazy, sloppily gathered data, and put them in confusing tables and graphs that incorrectly sum up the data. I obviously didn't do this, but this assignment has made me question statistics that I see on T.V. or the internet that aren't credible.
